Random musings...

Has anyone ever wondered if McCain is the real embodiment of the Manchurian candidate? Prisoner of war for 5 plus years, I'm just saying we might want to look into it.

Also, that drug bust on the news yesterday was sad. 85% of their clientele is from Utah County, and vastly Mormon youth. I knew heroine and cocaine were the drug of choice while I was in high school. I suppose I just expected a lower percentage.

McCain is coming to Utah.

I have to say I'm impressed. Republican presidential candidates almost never come to Utah. Apparently we are a “sure thing”. I suppose in McCain's case it is necessary, he took one vote for every 18 for Mitt Romney in the Utah state primary. I suppose it is insurance so that the Nations most Republican state stays that way! Don't forget to tune in to his speech today; it's at 11:30am. I'm sure there will be highlights on the evening news if you miss it.

McCain gave a speech yesterday in Los Angeles that was actually pretty decent. I basically consider him a democrat so I was pleasantly surprised. He said quote: “Polls increasingly show that populations are losing faith with democracy, and blame it for failing to provide security from crime and corruption or a way out of poverty." Perhaps this lack of faith could be reversed if the US returned to its roots as a Federal Constitutional Republic. Because we have democratic elections the US is often (wrongly) called a Democracy, even by our leaders. There is no truer statement then the old adage: "United we stand, divided we fall."

The United States is completely divided. There is not a common thread among the people. We are divided amongst 3 contenders, each more mediocre than the last. Where is this years Reagan? The truth is not even Republicans are interested in this political war over the Middle East. The unrest is so great, that change is crucial. Although every candidate promises this change, I doubt any of them will bring about a positive one. Although our presence is vital in Iraq, the people here at home need a better reason to be there. This is a political war. However, if we leave now leaving the country on unsteady ground enemies of the US will stake a claim. Our leaders are there to prevent power falling into the wrong hands. It is a preemptive attempt to protect our freedom as well as other Nations less capable of protecting themselves.

I feel like a Roy Lichtenstein painting.

I got a comment from somebody anonymous about remembering that politicians personal lives are private; what a load. These are publicly elected officials that have chosen to live a very exposed sort of lifestyle. It's like celebrities complaining about paparazzi. If you don't want the attention, get out of LA. I don't expect them to be perfect, but jeez, how about a little less sleazy? They are elected by the people for the people. As our elected they are expected to set an example for their constituents. David Paterson sound even shadier than former Gov. Spitzer. Pot, cocaine, affairs- is there anything he hasn't done? New York ought to be horrified that instead of trading in their morally bankrupt Governor for an upgrade, they ended up with yet another wolf in sheep's clothing.

As a person who has never even seen cocaine, why does my government official have too? I'm sure I'll be called naive, but why not ethical? Our officials should be expected to live up to the standard we set.

The Hillary Clinton debacle is equally disheartening, I mean, I always knew she was a liar, but seriously? Trying to make yourself heroic for political gain, how incredibly typical of a Clinton. (Remember all those jobs Bill created during his term in office? I belive he forgot to mention that they we all burger-flipping jobs at Wendy's.) The war in Bosnia was essentially over (we couldn't risk those great first lady pantsuits HC is so fond of) but of course there was still some unrest. Did Hillary have to make a run for it? No, she was greeted by the people and posed for photographs. I didn't hear one solitary gunshot in the background of that video, maybe I just have an untrained ear! Trying to make herself a hero is a great move, just not for her own campaign.

I had a teacher ask once why huge scandals don't shock us anymore; sometimes they don't even make the news. I answered that it's because we've seen it before, we are so desensitized that nothing shocks us. Politicians have been dubious and dishonest for most of America's history and no doubt will continue to be that way. Here's to hoping for a better tomorrow.

PS. I thought I should clarify that I haven't seen pot either! At least not in real life...

03.25.08

Everybody has been telling me what is wrong with my top movies; I'm starting to re-think them. I'm thinking V for Vendetta should be in there, or Equilibrium. I don't know. It's probably just too hard to narrow it down that far!

I'm also on a caffeine buzz; I woke up this morning so tired that I popped two Excedrin before 8:00am! Cheating, I know; but I was so tired! Plus, I find that caffeine is absolutely necessary to go to the post office in the morning. I hate that place. Since I have to go every mornin' I just needed a little push. I could tell I was going to need it. The Post Office also told me that we at Robinson needed a bigger box, I was grateful for that. It's rather a pain, to try to dig large manila envelopes out of our smallest sized PO. Box! I don't usually don't require the caffeine so don't worry about me having a Jessie Spano episode!

It's also a wonder I'm not devastatingly depressed. All day long at work I watch CNN. Although, sometimes when Eric is gone I switch it off, there are just so many times a day I can stand to hear that the world is ending.

More great, but completely superfluous information, I finally figured out how to do my hair! It was really stressing me out that short hair was harder to do than my long hair. Never fear, it's finally a cinch!

So yesterday I watched Gattaca whilest I waited for Natalie to wake up and Jen to come and get me to go look at our new apartment. Let's just say something is getting bumped from my top 5 (just don't know what)! It was amazing, dark, but still PG-13. I'd recommend it. N, J, and I checked out the apartment, and then stupidly made a sonic run (no wonder I feel so sick). Then we proceeded to watch yet another movie. I think I'm tired of movies. From now on we are making a plan and sticking to it! It's way to easy to fall back on something so mundane and mindlessly entertaining.

Tim says that my blog is regressing back to my old ways, but let's face it, nobody reads my blog when I write about politics! Sorry Tim, you'll just have to keep reading about my clothes, movies, and haircuts! TTYL, WT.

My Top 5 Films that I could watch over and over again.

1. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof- Who doesn't love Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman? Taylor's pout and Newman's blue eyes, you just can't deny their white hot chemistry. The acting is superb and has to be, because the majority of the film takes place in one room. This isn't exactly a date movie though. It's kind of that dark movie that makes you reevaluate.

2. E.T. - Some people won't understand this one, but I think it's a beloved classic (at least to me). Every time I watch it I cry, laugh, get scared. It's perfect, with the writing, the acting, and who doesn't love a good bike chase? I always expect E.T. to be in my room when I'm trying to sleep, and as much as I love him, it freaks me out.

3. Anne of Green Gables - I'm a girl so how could I not include this? She's the person every young girl wants to be; adventurous, opinionated, and fiery. She wins over everyone in this Canadian classic.

4. Star Wars (Original 3) - I'll admit it...love 'em! Great stories, blazing new technology, and Harrison Ford. The perfect recipe for success! The Indiana Jones trilogy was close, but I really hated Temple of Doom!

5. Juno - I desperately love to laugh so I needed a comedy on here! The writing is amazing, fresh and witty. It's a trendy comedy and in a few years I'll probably rue my choice (Napoleon Dynamite anyone?) but for now, it's laugh after laugh and I love it!

So I'm sure you noticed!

Not everything I blog about is serious, but eh, what can you do? I think as long as I have a couple o' serious ones thrown in there I'll be alright!

Rats, I totally forgot my camera cord so you'll all have to wait on more pictures!

Postscript: Whoever David is - identify yourself, I know a lot of you!
Okay, you don't have to, but I'd like to know!

Apparently politics have given up trying to even appear ethical. New NY Governor David Patterson and his wife have both admitted to having affairs, and he's only a day into office! What do the people of New York have in store? Fasten your seat belts it's going to be a bumpy ride!

Random thoughts...

Friday, September 21, 2007

Here's what I thought (or rather hoped) people were saying about me at:

Age 16: "Hey, Look at that girl driving the minivan." "Wow, she is way to cute to be driving that!" "I know, she must have really spiteful parents." "Seriously, she could be driving something so much cuter."

Age 18: "Hey, Look. She's wearing a "VOTE" pin. Isn't it great when one so young cares about politics, and our elected officials." "Yes, it really shows character, very refreshing."

Age 20: "Look at that chick, she's reading the New Yorker. Any girl that reads that instead of the latest People or Cosmo must be really smart and care about what is going on in the world." "Definitely, smart girls are way hotter than leggy blondes."

Age 22: "Hey, Look. Black nail polish, very in." "Yeah, she must stay up on all the latest fashions." "Totally, she is so completely vogue. You can tell she's not a goth at all, because the celebrities wear black too!"

Things going to be added to my wardrobe very soon!

I can't seem to get enough of Boden clothing! My other pieces worked out so well, I'm purchasing a few more!

Lalalove...

So I met Micky Dolenz, not only did I make him pose for a picture with me, but I may have bought a cd and had him sign it! I feel much better about this as of late, discovering the Diablo Cody, writer of Juno, has almost an identical shot on her blog! As she so often does, she made this incredibly geeky thing (me) cooler than before. How bad can I be if a totally cool oscar winner has the same cheesy picture? Now I am quite proud. I know. I know I’m a huge dork, and my hair looks really, really (excruciatingly) bad curly. At least I know now to never do my hair like that again. Love you Micky!

So tired...

Eliot Spitzer stepped down as the Governor of New York today. Yet another example of how our political system is crumbling. Is there no office sacred enough for these corrupt men to respect and honor? Forget the pain he has already caused his family, he killed his brilliant political career in one fell swoop. Spitzer was rumored to have presidential aspirations. As an ethical person I want to know when the U.S. is going to say enough to these Clintonesque politicians. I'm always surprised at the women who stand by them, Silda Spitzer stood stoically by her husbands side at both press conferences. I always know why they don't slap these men upside the head, they just stand idly by; I realize they are public figures, but a little emotion would be a refreshing change.

So this is totally not serious, but I'll live.

I'm addicted to cutting my hair! Now it's really short, some would say boy shot. Kind of a stupid picture, but I'm sure some cuter pictures will follow!

Yes, my blog is sophomoric.

To remedy this I'm overhauling it. No more silly posts about shoes, baking, or anything that will make my blog seem "high school". This also means fewer posts, because I have very few intelligent thoughts roaming amongst all those shallow and trivial ones. So don't harangue me- I'm trying to be smarter, or as Amanda would say "smartical".

Best Joke

I got this from Tim- it's brilliant!

G. W. Bush and Bill Clinton somehow ended up at the same barbershop. As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken. The barbers were both afraid to start a conversation, for fear it would turn to politics.

As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had Clinton in his chair reached for the after shave.

Clinton was quick to stop him saying, 'No thanks, my wife Hillary will smell that and think I've been in a whorehouse.'

The second barber turned to Bush and said, 'How about you?' Bush replied, 'Go ahead, my wife doesn't know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like.'

We're back!

So I like really random pictures, and love architecture. Bear with me.

This was a gorgeous lighthouse in Key West. It was pristine (although a really long climb...) and had an amazing view with The Hemingway House just across the street, and views out to the ocean! I took a million pictures outside and inside! Love lighthouses!

We just love Jared and all his rolls! He was preparing for his first snorkel! I don't think he did very well, but aren't those flippers adorable? The Stingrays scared him to death! The next one is the boys at Grand Cayman- they look a little like the Stooges!

This last one is pretty disgusting- the boys eating live conch- yes ALIVE! Our guide cleared them out of their shells and Scott and Matthew took a bite out of them with those poor animals looking at them (shudder). Of course, they made sure Daniel the guide did it first.
