All Things in Moderation.
Too hot! It's only May and I feel like I'm baking every time I step outdoors! I'm totally looking forward to July. As kids we would all lounge around the stairs under the swamp cooler (pre-air conditioning days) and start our search for the most awesome sprinkler head to run through! I can never decide which season is the worst: Winter or Summer. I probably just hate the extremes (my position on politics as well). Why are the two seasons that suck the most the longest?
Granted there is a lot more you can do in the summer: lake trips, tennis, camping, and barbecuing. And maybe it's just me but it seems like louder music- I'm a fan. In Summer it's like planning committees went nuts! There is always something to play, see, or do. Come to think of it, summer pretty much rocks! I can get over burning my hands on my steering wheel.
In the winter all activities pertain to snow or ice. Personally, I dislike anything that makes me drive like an idiot, and does anybody really like being cold & wet? I think that is why so many holidays are packed into the winter months, it's that horrible(Once, I was clearing the snow off my car and slipped under it. Yes, I have nothing but the fondest memories of snow... ). Christmas makes the winter only slightly more bearable.
Yep, looks like winter is worse.

So Over.
Is it just me or is David Archuleta a squinty-eyed version Clay Aiken? As if the world needs another, one is plenty creepy. YUCK! Is anybody else completely thrilled that Cook killed Archuleta? For weeks and weeks I've heard nothing but Archuleta this and Archuleta that. It made me started rooting for the other kid, and I don't even watch the ridiculous show! Thank goodness it's all over! I couldn't stand another kvetching crooner.
(Clay Aiken was runner-up wasn’t he? Oh, blast. I am going to have to listen to him again.)
What I learned from my father.
Some of you know my father, and if you do you know that he is a financial genius. My dad is so good at what he does that a certain women’s group asked him to come and talk to them about dying. No joke, dying. Death probably seems like something you really can't plan for, trust me you can. He's got about 7 binders full of things relevant to dying. It's borderline obsessive compulsive, but at least he'll be good at it. Growing up we learned all about money. I'm sure he thinks he failed to impart that knowledge to me seeing as I'm in possession of a Nordstrom card, which to my father is cardinal sin #1. In spite of that, I was actually listening.
Money is something our generation takes deeply for granted. In the age of plastic it's easy to forget that we actually need the cash to back our purchases up. All of our lives we have been cautioned against incurring debt. It is easy to see why with all of the turmoil and crisis around us especially in the last year. The time has seriously come to get on it. The cost of food and fuel are rapidly rising, making it abundantly clear that now is the time to get out of debt. We live in uncertain times, and now is the time to prepare for even worse times ahead.

Movie Tag
1. the total number of movies i own:
about 200- I have waaaaaayyyyyyyy to many for only being 22. That's not even counting all the TV I have on DVD.
2. the last movie i bought:
I think it might have been Juno, Dan in Real Life, the Star Wars box set (original) & the Indiana Jones Box set. There are just certain movies you just have to own. Now if only I could find somebody to babysit them while I'm gone for a year and a half. Wink.
3. the last movie I saw:
Penelope- Natalie is obsessed with it! I've seen it three times now and it wasn't that good. Or maybe it was There Will Be Blood- I could watch Daniel Day-Lewis read the phonebook, he's that good.
At home- Funny Lady, not that funny. Doesn't even compare with funny girl.
4. a movie I'll never watch again:
I Know Who Killed Me- Worst movie I've EVER seen. Lindsey Lohan doesn't even die, but don't worry she does have a long lost twin sister (who also does not die)...no I'm not lying. All the red and blue (blue representing the normal lilo and red representing the wild lilo) imagery made me sick. It was literally everywhere (e.g. the above picture)!
5. five movies that mean something to me:
E.T.- I love that little alien, I can't make it through that movie without some excessive crying.
V for Vendetta- Natalie Portman is phenomenal, she honestly can do no wrong. A movie that gives us pride in freedom and makes Democracy seem like the most important thing in the world after seeing Great Britain a totalitarian society and the lengths people will go to to bring it down.
Closer- I don't really recommend this one to the faint of heart, it's a tad scandalous. The dialog and themes in this movie are so powerful. Every part counts.
Little Women/ Persuasion- What kind of girl would I be if I didn't mention these two?
The Departed- Ummmm, epic. The only movie I can stand Leonardo DiCaprio- does he make anyone else cringe?
There are probably some that I forgot- but I can never remember them when I have to.
i tag these people:
Natalie W., and Jen G.

Twilight Official Trailer
I thought I would post this for all you doubters- looks better than you thought it would be doesn't it?
OH BABY, OH BABY!
1. I Will Possess Your Heart- Death Cab
2. Lover I Don't Have To Love- Bettie Serveert
3. Paper Planes- M.I.A.
4. I Hear the Bells- Mike Doughty
5. Superstar- Sonic Youth
6. Erase/Rewind- The Cardigans
7. Mercy- Duffy
8. Momentary Thing- Something Happens
9. Alone Again (Naturally)- Gilbert O'Sullivan
10. Mr. Brightside- (Jacques Lu Cont's Thin White Duke Mix) The Killers
The new Death Cab for Cutie dropped today! It's fantastic! The only sad thing is how radio friendly they seem to be getting. They wouldn't be DCFC if they weren't unique!
I also picked up the Duffy album Rockferry. She sounded promising. Jazzy but still alternative.

Disenchanted...
Disillusionment is a rare thing…a thing I felt I've achieved (yes, achieved) over the past few months. I'm saying thank you to the writer's strike-- you helped me quit prime time. I dropped Cable like a bad habit, because it was one.
Ratings are down enormously for TV and everyone is surprised. How can they be? I tell you how; we all went out and got lives. Forced to come up with other projects while our favorite shows took a hiatus, we temporarily forgot who was sleeping with whom. We lost interest in our favorite stories and characters the way children loose interest in fairy tales when they grow up. I think people are discovering life outside of network TV. Don't people want to know the happenings on Wisteria Lane or Seattle Grace Hospital? Not anymore. People found hobbies- in case you haven't heard reading is back in fashion.
With a major source for entertainment tapped, creativity resurfaced. It's odd to think that it left; that a group of fictional people could replace the spontaneity and individuality of a majority of the human race. The only thing to watch was the news. With all the horrible things going on in the world, and after all the Prozac being handed out people got smart. They got out. Deciding not to waste life, we switched the television off.
Now that my television viewing is at a minimum I have to wonder why we ever watched at all. The comfort of having more screwed up people than ourselves? Was it mindless escape from our topsy-turvy lives? Now it all seems to decadent to sit around and wonder what is going to happen next in the 45 minute segment (I won’t even start on the 15 minutes of mind-numbing commercials).
Am I occasionally interested? Sure, but it’s minimal. Grey’s Anatomy died on the table and the office is only 20 minutes to give up. American Idol is just a show I wish weren’t on the human race’s record, it’s embarrassing (I think I’ll include all reality television in the embarrassment genre). It’s like giving up smoking, only when you’ve quit do you realize how bad it smelled.
