So tired...
Eliot Spitzer stepped down as the Governor of New York today. Yet another example of how our political system is crumbling. Is there no office sacred enough for these corrupt men to respect and honor? Forget the pain he has already caused his family, he killed his brilliant political career in one fell swoop. Spitzer was rumored to have presidential aspirations. As an ethical person I want to know when the U.S. is going to say enough to these Clintonesque politicians. I'm always surprised at the women who stand by them, Silda Spitzer stood stoically by her husbands side at both press conferences. I always know why they don't slap these men upside the head, they just stand idly by; I realize they are public figures, but a little emotion would be a refreshing change.

On CNN yesterday, this was the story they ran every other story (I was stuck at the airport for 8 hours and that's all they show). I cannot believe a man who based his campaign on his ethics would be so slimy. And yes, I had the same thought about his wife, as with the wife of the New Jersey gay politician. Why? Why would you put up with this?
The wives put up with it because they enjoy the power, the position, and the money that is at their disposal. They "stand by their men" and encourage them to not step out of the political spotlight with all its perks. They are trying to hang on to something, anything, and they all choose the material world instead of more important things like their families and their dignity. Eventually it all seems to crumble anyway...
Just think about Hillary Clinton, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Kennedy Onasis, Mrs. Senator Craig, et al. They all knew what was going on way before the political scandals hit. For them, sadly, it was worth it to keep quiet...
Just look at Mrs. Spitzer. I can just see her thinking, "I went through all this, put up with all your 'stuff,' and you are resigning your office anyway!? I'm too tired to even think about what to do now."
I truly don't understand why these men don't display any moral integrity or self-discipline. Surely they know people are watching them and why don't they learn anything from the Clinton debacle.
