I need a good read!
I've read nothing but good books lately, but I think I'm coming to an end of my literary rope! I need some recommendations, and here are some of mine:
The Fountainhead:
One of Ayn Rand's great literary works! It's a bit of a lighter read than Atlas Shrugged(not saying much) and still completely brilliant! She is one of my favorite authors. Maybe because I like to get down and dirty with my books, highlighted and marked all over! Her character's are so amazingly multifaceted, you'll have to study them over and over again. The way Rand writes people is simply fascinating. If you don't like the deeply profound you'd be better served not to read this one!

The Far Pavilions:
This has been called the Gone with the Wind of the North West frontier of India. I would have to wholeheartedly agree. It's breathtaking the way M.M. Kaye writes of India. She makes you fall in love with India's beauty and people without omitting the darkest of the land's history.

I'm currently on the job hunt. Something that is closer to home and has better hours. I had an interview with Raylene this morning at 10:30am. I can always tell when I'm going to get a job or not, and let me tell you I had a good feeling. Sometimes you just know when you are on, aren't those days amazing? I feel like nothing can go wrong on those types of days! Tomorrow I find out if made the first cut! I've got hope in my heart! The people seemed great, and the company is moving even closer to where I live. It's karma baby!

The glory of being a receptionist.
Working for an eye doctor I meet many a stupid people, here are a few examples:
"Yes, you do still have to pay. I understand you can't see your bill."
"Yes, some frames do cost that much. We like to keep them in stock for the people that care what they look like."
"Oh no, your kids aren't ill-behaved. I wanted to clean all the mirror's, re-organize the glasses, and re-stack the magazines."
Me: "Hello?"
Patient: "Hi, I have Phlegmonous Dacryocystitis."
Me: "Great, can I make you an appointment?"
Me:"Your total comes to $408.76, how did you want to pay?"
Patient: "Is that how much I pay?"
Me: "Yes."
Patient: "Didn't my insurance cover anything?"
Me: "About four hundred dollars."
Patient: "Then why is it so much?"
Me: "Because you're half blind!"
Patient: "Hey I'm calling because my contacts are really irritating my eye, is there anything I can do?"
Me: "Take them out."
Patient: "But I need them to see."
Me: "Don't you have glasses?"
Patient: "No, they were too expensive."
Me: "I guess next time you'd better get some, in the mean time try a new pair."
Patient: "Okay thanks."
Me: "Yep."

Patient: "I was just wondering if you had an Optometrist or an Opthamologist?"
Me: "We have 2 Optometrists."
Patient: "Now, what is the difference again?"
Me: "In addition to medical school, an Opthamologist also goes on to specialize on the eye. An Optomotrist is an eye doctor, they don't go to medical school, but a school completely for eyes.
Patient: "So which one should I see?"

Age 13: "Looks like that Whitney girl finally got a Tommy Hilfiger shirt, too bad it's all about Abercrombie and Fitch now. Jeez, that girl just can't keep up with the fashion, can she? I kinda feel sorry for her, she must be mortified."
Age 15: "She finally got contacts. It's about time, glasses are so junior high. She probably has really neglectful parents. I know, don't they care how her classmates see her! I mean, really! She probably had to beg them to let her."
Age 17: "That girl didn't talk to anybody while she walked down the hallway, she must be really cool and popular to be able to not talk to anybody. She didn't even say hi when we passed. I bet she's a way amazing person."
Age 21: "Look at that girl, she is really dressed up. I bet she has a really, really important job. I mean look at her jewelry, she looks like she makes a lot of money. I can't believe that she is still going to school as well, she must be a very dedicated person. To have a great job and go to school at the same time."

i love the smell of: my Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue perfume. It's the only perfume I've ever had that I just can't seem to get enough of. I continually just smell myself. It's crisp, clean, and a little citrusy; but the undercurrent of spice is spectacular.
i love the sound of: Rain in a thunderstorm. I love the sound of millions of drops pounding against something. Especially at work, the roof is metal and it just magnifies the sound.
i love the taste of: mixing salsa, sour cream, and melted cheese and cramming as much as possible on a yellow corn chip! It's deliciously disgusting! One of my best friend's Natalie introduced me, it's basically a quesadilla on chips! Brown sugar and cinnamon pop-tarts.
i love the sight of: my baby brother Jared when he's laughing! It's the only time his smile looks completely unrehearsed and genuine.
i love the feel of: Coming home. I commute to work so driving home is an arduous task, what with rush hour traffic, the heat, and driving a stick shift isn't very pleasant in stop n' go traffic!

Really?
Not only am I annoyed that the only thing on the news today is how terrible Britney Spears performance at the VMA's was. Now I actually have to defend her. Nobody is a bigger non-fan than myself, but to call her fat seems cruel. Despite the nasty weave, Britney's body is actually quite fit. Is she where she was 4 years ago? No, but since when did a size 6 make sombody fat! I hope I look like Britney after two kids and a divorce!

I love the oil and oil burners from the body shop. Especially if you have roomates who cook the most disgusting food! Satsuma is the number one seller but they have many differnt scents for everyone!

Mi Encanta...
My Nicole Miller Specs! I hate wearing glasses and only wear them occasionally, but when I do I'm all about these! I especially love that they are the ones featured in ads. I am oh so vogue! This is the Cest La Vie and the color is film noir! I love it!

It's that wonderful time of the year! The US. Open is finally here! My man Roddick is doing pretty well, he's already defeated Gimelstob and Acasuso! Both in 3 set matches, although I suppose Acasuso retiring early doesn't quite count no matter!

Yummy!
I attempted this recipe from I love milk and cookies the other day. It was delicious, although mine wasn't quite as pretty! Considering I had to convert it from metric to standard I'm pretty proud!
Caramel Apple Pudding
from Delicious Magazine July 2005
serves 6
5 large golden delicious or Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, sliced ½cm thick
1 2/3 cups (250g) plain all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
180g unrefined caster sugar
200ml milk
150g unsalted butter, melted
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup (200g) light muscovado sugar or light brown sugar
½ cup (125ml) golden syrup
Icing sugar and thick cream, to serve
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Lightly butter a 2.5-litre baking dish.
Place apples in the prepared dish.
Sift flour and baking powder into the bowl of an electric mixer, add caster sugar, milk, butter and egg, then beat until pale.
Spread mixture over the apples.
Place muscovado or brown sugar, golden syrup and 300ml water in a saucepan.
Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves, then bring to the boil without stirring.
Pour over the pudding batter, then bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden.
Dust with icing sugar and serve with cream.
