My Top 5 Films that I could watch over and over again.

1. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof- Who doesn't love Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman? Taylor's pout and Newman's blue eyes, you just can't deny their white hot chemistry. The acting is superb and has to be, because the majority of the film takes place in one room. This isn't exactly a date movie though. It's kind of that dark movie that makes you reevaluate.

2. E.T. - Some people won't understand this one, but I think it's a beloved classic (at least to me). Every time I watch it I cry, laugh, get scared. It's perfect, with the writing, the acting, and who doesn't love a good bike chase? I always expect E.T. to be in my room when I'm trying to sleep, and as much as I love him, it freaks me out.

3. Anne of Green Gables - I'm a girl so how could I not include this? She's the person every young girl wants to be; adventurous, opinionated, and fiery. She wins over everyone in this Canadian classic.

4. Star Wars (Original 3) - I'll admit it...love 'em! Great stories, blazing new technology, and Harrison Ford. The perfect recipe for success! The Indiana Jones trilogy was close, but I really hated Temple of Doom!

5. Juno - I desperately love to laugh so I needed a comedy on here! The writing is amazing, fresh and witty. It's a trendy comedy and in a few years I'll probably rue my choice (Napoleon Dynamite anyone?) but for now, it's laugh after laugh and I love it!

So I'm sure you noticed!

Not everything I blog about is serious, but eh, what can you do? I think as long as I have a couple o' serious ones thrown in there I'll be alright!

Rats, I totally forgot my camera cord so you'll all have to wait on more pictures!

Postscript: Whoever David is - identify yourself, I know a lot of you!
Okay, you don't have to, but I'd like to know!

Apparently politics have given up trying to even appear ethical. New NY Governor David Patterson and his wife have both admitted to having affairs, and he's only a day into office! What do the people of New York have in store? Fasten your seat belts it's going to be a bumpy ride!

Random thoughts...

Friday, September 21, 2007

Here's what I thought (or rather hoped) people were saying about me at:

Age 16: "Hey, Look at that girl driving the minivan." "Wow, she is way to cute to be driving that!" "I know, she must have really spiteful parents." "Seriously, she could be driving something so much cuter."

Age 18: "Hey, Look. She's wearing a "VOTE" pin. Isn't it great when one so young cares about politics, and our elected officials." "Yes, it really shows character, very refreshing."

Age 20: "Look at that chick, she's reading the New Yorker. Any girl that reads that instead of the latest People or Cosmo must be really smart and care about what is going on in the world." "Definitely, smart girls are way hotter than leggy blondes."

Age 22: "Hey, Look. Black nail polish, very in." "Yeah, she must stay up on all the latest fashions." "Totally, she is so completely vogue. You can tell she's not a goth at all, because the celebrities wear black too!"

Things going to be added to my wardrobe very soon!

I can't seem to get enough of Boden clothing! My other pieces worked out so well, I'm purchasing a few more!

Lalalove...

So I met Micky Dolenz, not only did I make him pose for a picture with me, but I may have bought a cd and had him sign it! I feel much better about this as of late, discovering the Diablo Cody, writer of Juno, has almost an identical shot on her blog! As she so often does, she made this incredibly geeky thing (me) cooler than before. How bad can I be if a totally cool oscar winner has the same cheesy picture? Now I am quite proud. I know. I know I’m a huge dork, and my hair looks really, really (excruciatingly) bad curly. At least I know now to never do my hair like that again. Love you Micky!

So tired...

Eliot Spitzer stepped down as the Governor of New York today. Yet another example of how our political system is crumbling. Is there no office sacred enough for these corrupt men to respect and honor? Forget the pain he has already caused his family, he killed his brilliant political career in one fell swoop. Spitzer was rumored to have presidential aspirations. As an ethical person I want to know when the U.S. is going to say enough to these Clintonesque politicians. I'm always surprised at the women who stand by them, Silda Spitzer stood stoically by her husbands side at both press conferences. I always know why they don't slap these men upside the head, they just stand idly by; I realize they are public figures, but a little emotion would be a refreshing change.

So this is totally not serious, but I'll live.

I'm addicted to cutting my hair! Now it's really short, some would say boy shot. Kind of a stupid picture, but I'm sure some cuter pictures will follow!

Yes, my blog is sophomoric.

To remedy this I'm overhauling it. No more silly posts about shoes, baking, or anything that will make my blog seem "high school". This also means fewer posts, because I have very few intelligent thoughts roaming amongst all those shallow and trivial ones. So don't harangue me- I'm trying to be smarter, or as Amanda would say "smartical".

Best Joke

I got this from Tim- it's brilliant!

G. W. Bush and Bill Clinton somehow ended up at the same barbershop. As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken. The barbers were both afraid to start a conversation, for fear it would turn to politics.

As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had Clinton in his chair reached for the after shave.

Clinton was quick to stop him saying, 'No thanks, my wife Hillary will smell that and think I've been in a whorehouse.'

The second barber turned to Bush and said, 'How about you?' Bush replied, 'Go ahead, my wife doesn't know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like.'

We're back!

So I like really random pictures, and love architecture. Bear with me.

This was a gorgeous lighthouse in Key West. It was pristine (although a really long climb...) and had an amazing view with The Hemingway House just across the street, and views out to the ocean! I took a million pictures outside and inside! Love lighthouses!

We just love Jared and all his rolls! He was preparing for his first snorkel! I don't think he did very well, but aren't those flippers adorable? The Stingrays scared him to death! The next one is the boys at Grand Cayman- they look a little like the Stooges!

This last one is pretty disgusting- the boys eating live conch- yes ALIVE! Our guide cleared them out of their shells and Scott and Matthew took a bite out of them with those poor animals looking at them (shudder). Of course, they made sure Daniel the guide did it first.

Love this room!

So quintessentially me! Bright white with a pop of red, gorgeous bookshelves (I have so many books I have two boxes full in the trunk of my car I just couldn't fit in my tiny apartment), and the great minimalist, clean feeling! I love the giant mirror (bet that was fun to hang!), and the plain lighting. Very chic! Found on Black Eiffel.

No Fidel, No Fidel, No Fidel!

Wouldn't it be absolutely fabulous to go to Cuba this week! Just after one of the worlds most famous Dictators stepped down? I'll just be circling around this gorgeous island for a week! Hopefully I'll find time to take a daytrip to Cuba!
I'll be hitting: Cozumel, The Cayman Islands, Key West, & Jamaica!

Too bad it's illegal because of the Cuba embargo! Silly U.S. trying to tell me where I can and can't go. Does anybody else think that this violates my rights? Haven't they heard Fidel is done!?

These were my pretty valentines cupcakes! Chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting, and cinnamon hearts for decor, I sprinkled some of them with edible snow. Sometimes I just have to bake, despite my dislike of Valentine's Day. Thanks to my brother-in-law Scott for helping me take the pictures, I'm kinda dense when it comes to photography! Oh yeah, Melissa did teach me how to frost pretty! Although, I already knew I was going to pipe it on.

MY ANTI- VALENTINES MOVIE LIST...

This is my list- hopefully it will quash any remains of "love" lingering.

1. Titanic- what you say? This romantic gem? Yes. For all you single gals absolutely loathing VD Day, this is perfect, Rose ends up alone. Don't let go, Jack! I think we were all relieved with that poetic ending. Let go already!

2. There will be blood. What blood is red, in keeping with the VD theme. Plus I could watch Daniel Day-Lewis read a phone book and be thoroughly entertained.

3. If you are just feeling a little wistful, you might want to go see 27 dresses, just to remind you that it might just take you a while to find Mr. Perfect (whom I believe is just the make believe person too many movies and books have made us believe in). You can also hate your sister for getting married first (sorry M.). Also if Katherine Hiegel can't get married who can?

4. The Hottie and the Nottie- What could be better for the feminist movement than Paris Hilton- this is bound to be atrocious, which means a lot of laughs at Paris' expense. What in the world could make a girl feel better than not being Paris Hilton?

5. The Star Wars Trilogy (original). There is probably a reason you're single, so embrace who you are. If you live with your parents, collect figurines, or have devoted your life to gaming, this is the movie for you. This is also interchangeable with LOTR.

6. My so-called life- not a movie I know, but the teen angst is so great! You can at least feel better that you aren't a moony teenager anymore. Plus Jared Leto is nice eye candy. It's also a great time waster, before you know it 2.14 will be over! Hooray!

7. Young at Heart. This is an old Doris Day & Frank Sinatra flick- although it is a love story; it's quite the bumpy ride. Plus it shows that love is not always ideal, but messy and painful. Bonus: Frank Sinatra singing can only soothe the soul.

8. The Break Up- Petty games + they don't end up together. Makes you remember why you are single.

9.Sweeny Todd. Nothing like getting your revenge on, and hey blood is red! Even with a sallow complexion and salt and pepper hair Johnny Depp is still a fox, and a great actor.

10. Gone With The Wind. Miss Scarlett is that southern belle you love to hate. The girl that steals your man and then gets what she deserves when she is left all alone. A reminder that love doesn’t triumph all, it’s usually more or less, a crapshoot. Bonus: She has some truly admirable spunk and a fabulous wardrobe.

My philosophy on love, as follows:

Love is just something we make up to cover up loneliness.

"How can one person be so endlessly dissappointing."

Anne of Green Gables
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Pride & Prejudice (I’m such a girl!)
E.T.
Young at Heart
East of Eden
Rebel Without a Cause

BONUS — 7 Things You May Not Know About Me:

I almost instantly dislike people who disagree with me; it takes awhile to get back in my good graces.

I'm a total snob, about clothing, literature, movies, and books. You name it; I'll probably judge you. Sorry! I try to get over it.

If you couldn't already tell, I'm easily annoyed- although most people never can tell when I'm annoyed with them personally. Only my closest friends and family can.

I have a decidedly cynical view of the world, but deep down I'm an idealist and hope for the best and believe in all those stupid fairytale endings. There has to be a perfect man out there somewhere!

I'm terrified of rubber balloons, not joking. They really freak me out- the Mylar ones don't worry me at all! I used 100 balloons to answer my prom date in High School; I nearly had heart palpitations when they were all crammed into my Honda Civic.

I'll either vote Obama or write in Stephen Colbert for President. I'm a die-hard Republican that just can't stomach McCain. He's Awful.

I love blogs, it's one of the highlights of my day, just seeing what everybody finds interesting and what they are up too.

An open letter to whom it may concern:

Dear Favorite Stars,

I know that it is all the rage to become a serious actor. Really, I understand. If it's not too much to ask could you make a watchable movie once in a while? I get that you want to be validated in your career and pretend you have a real job by making a movie that means something, but let's be honest, you only have a job because I find you entertaining. It's a hard reality, but you are my eye candy, my entertainment. For a couple of hours I just want to pretend that I really do live your life.

Leo, I realize that Martin Scorsese is a genius or whatever, but it's time to forge a new director/actor relationship (Think Johnny Depp and Tim Burton.) The Departed...amazing, The Aviator...not so much (the most boring 3 hours of my life). I hate to be brutal but Titanic and Romeo + Juliet made you, if not for that you would be filming The Growing Pains Reunion movies.

George, yes you're attractive, couldn't you do just one little tiny romantic comedy? Or am I going to have to keep watching your weird forays into dark cinematic crap? I don't think you have enough hits to even afford your huge political box office washouts. I kinda understand Oceans Eleven, I'll just skip 12, I didn't even see 13(because of 12), but what else do you have to offer? Michael Clayton, which was awful, only came back to theatres after it was nominated for an Oscar and even then didn't do well. As a regular person in no way affiliated with the Academy (but who helps subsidize your career), Oscar isn't all that matters.

My non-honorable mentions (sheer cinematic torture): Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman to Charlie Wilson's War), Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan to The Da Vinci Code).

I wish these A-Lister's would follow the example of truly great actors, for example Christian Bale. Bale not only does the indie, Oscar lovin' films (I'm Not There)but also finds the time to make an occasional blockbuster (Batman Begins). Bale triumphs in the soulful, dark genre; however, he manages to make it fan friendly (while still being Oscar material), .

Matt Damon also comes to mind; with great movies like the Bourne trilogy he can also do the award show movies too (The Good Shepherd, The Departed). He also has a certain charm, a likeability factor both DiCaprio and Clooney lack.

These are just a few of the actors who get it right. Honorable mentions: Kate Winslet (The Holiday to Little Children), Kiera Knightly (Love Actually to Domino), and Brad Pitt (Mr. and Mrs. Smith to Babel).

Are these too bold for me to pull off?

I'm not sure which one I should get, or if I should get anything at all, thoughts?

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Mitt Romney is suspending his campaign as I type. So disappointing, you can see it in his eyes. My heart is breaking a little bit.

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

I think I forgot to mention...

To vote smart, I can't believe McCain has taken the Republican lead; he and Huckabee are the worst possible candidates for the GOP. You can't even call McCain a true conservative- he votes against tax cuts. Huckabee just doesn't know what he's doing. If he makes to the White House be prepared for major changes to our constitution- you may even have to become a Baptist...ewww. The Yankee's own King Henry the VIII. Both of these men are probably more detrimental than Obama or Hilary..

Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Remember to vote today!

Registered Republicans unite! Please go and vote! Unless you're voting for McCain, then don't bother, nobody wants that loon in the White House! If he gets the nomination I'm voting Obama for 2009! Vote for all those who can't vote!

My tribute to Jen!

Jen I love you!

8 Great things about Jen!

1. Nobody can make me laugh like Jen!
2. You love my bad qualities, like being a witch. You even called it cute once.
3. Jen is completely gorgeous, and totally looks like Sophia Bush, whom I love.
4. People that bug me bug you, and we can talk about it for hours!
5. We were both big dorks in High School. I don't really think you were, but you insist!
6. Jen goes with me to movies nobody else will go to! I think we have strange taste.
7. I always want to stay up late when Jen is around! Always.
8. I know Jen is always there if I need her!

I tag Alyssa, Melissa, and Mom to pick someone they love to post about! I know you all want to do me, but the answer is no, you can't.

Ps. I totally stole these off your facebook!

So I took the quiz truthfully now... Peguin was first, then elephant, then tiger. Take that Mom!

Penguin
Genera and species: Aptenodytes patagonica
Collective Term: A colony of penguins
Description
Now you see it, now you don't. Aggressive yet gentle, outgoing but shy, stable yet flighty -- everyone sees the penguin in a different way. It's that black and white thing -- the penguin only reveals the side that it wants to you to see. So, whether you like this darling-devil or not, you have to concede that it's a fascinating and enigmatic individual.

For penguins are birds condemned to live out their days on the ground. Unable to fly, their excess energy has no outlet save their creative talents and emotional outbursts. Penguins are poetic, artistic, and intellectually gifted, and as writers, penguins have no equal. But, if unable to channel their impulses in a positive way, the resulting turmoil proves damaging to their relationships and careers.

With a natural aptitude for languages, penguin personalities dominate the world of publishing as writers, editors and journalists. A strong sense of drama draws them to the theater and cinema, although unlike typical bird personalities, they avoid the spotlight unless they're able to hide behind the characters they play. Once on stage however, they prove to be excellent performers with their multifaceted personalities conveying the full gamut of emotions.

However, a lack of confidence affects their work and penguins tend to give up too easily. So work never dominates their lives and they always put their families first. Those intimate with their penguin personality are impressed by their unswerving loyalty. They are sentimental at heart and always remember anniversaries and the birthdays of nieces and nephews. With a strong compassion for others, they place their family's needs ahead of their own but often end up being taken advantage of.

In matters of the heart, penguins connect poorly with other bird personalities who look down on them because of their terrestrial connections. Mammalian personalities also treat them with suspicion too, finding them to be flighty and unpredictable.

Since penguins have the coldest feet in the animal kingdom, it's no surprise that within its conflicted bosom there beats the warmest heart of all. Unfortunately, most of us will never experience this gentle compassion, for penguins ration their love only to family and close friends.

Elephant
Genera and species: Loxodonta africana
Collective Term: A herd of elephants
Description
An elephant personality is a person whose deliberate movements exude confidence and calm in all aspects of his or her life. While maybe not the king of the animal word, it is surely a member of the royal family. With an imposing physical presence and kind, spiritual demeanor, it moves easily through life where few barriers can hold it back.

There's a touch of cool in the stoic elephant that's appealing and reassuring. In all probability this composure stems from the knowledge that they have no natural enemies; for even the lion and crocodile personalities pay homage by giving them a respectful berth. Only the unpredictable tiger has been known to trigger any semblance of anxiety in this otherwise fearless animal.

But even the sober elephant is prone to tantrums, proving to be enormously disagreeable if it believes it has been wronged. And for the record: elephants don't forget. Fortunately these moods are rare and confined mainly to the male of the species, but when an outburst does occur, all should evacuate the area until the drama has played itself out.

When elephants set their minds to something, they don't waver in their commitment until the task is complete. Their intelligence, combined with a formidable personality, gives them a terrific advantage in business and social affairs while their communication skills make them first-rate leaders. Trustworthy and honest, they always let others know where they stand with regard to their feelings.

Their vocal skills make them excellent singers and musicians, and their sober natures align them with the classical arts rather than contemporary music. In business, they are usually found in leadership roles as CEOs or company presidents. And although they're highly paid, they are never ostentatious with their wealth.

If you think that it's just the elephants' size that impresses its lovers, you'd be mistaken. Sure size matters, but it's more than just physical prowess that has given rise to the legend of the elephant lover. Certainly it isn't for their looks; elephants are somewhat underwhelming with their plain gray appearances -- it's because elephants are able to inject so much emotional and physic energy into a relationship that lovers find them so compelling.

Tiger
Genera and species: Panthera tigris
Collective Term: A bolt of tigers
Description
Tigers are handsome and powerful people with an innate self-confidence and elegance. There's a sense of immediacy and an aura of electricity that surrounds it, and when it walks into a room, something always seems about to happen. Consider the classic tiger personality of F. Lee Bailey. He expresses himself with the confidence of one who expects his orders to be unquestionably followed, and his autocratic style demands respect and commands fear. For once a tiger has found its groove, it focuses on its goal with a brightly burning intensity. Male tigers, when out of their element, are sometimes mistaken for beefcake. But when you see them in their offices wearing their power suits, you realize that you're dealing with incisive, authoritarian individuals.

As a nocturnal hunter the tiger is equipped with a great deal of street sense. Able to read people's motivations and assess situations quickly, it is blunt and to the point, commanding attention with just a whisper or a raising of its eyebrow. It demands respect and commands fear. Unlike their cat relatives, tigers enjoy sports of all kinds, with a particular affinity for water sports. They are often seen in the company of river dolphins and sea lions on a casual and socially limited basis.

With a need to dominate their partners, their passionate advances can often be too intense for those fainthearted partners, so they must choose their lovers wisely. Because of their propensity for solitude, they avoid long-lasting relationships and place little value on fidelity -- proving to be unsettled and promiscuous.

Marry it? Yes. Tame it? Never! It's hard to put one's finger on why the tiger struggles to settle down, but one theory has it that the tiger views marriage as a threat to its independence. But their emotional detachment should not be confused with a desire to avoid intimacy; for intimacy is the tiger's greatest sensual tool. By offering its lover its deeply held secrets, it adds another dimension of eroticism to its lovemaking.

However, those tigers that have been married for a while will tell you that matrimony can be quite agreeable. Perhaps then, it's their impossible search for the perfect partner that keeps them on the prowl, although more than likely, we'll never understand the dark forces that frame its fearful symmetry.

I found some great boots!

They are a little funky I know, but they are so comfortable and look great!
